Thank you Eric Idle and Spamalot for the title!

Nope, I'm not dead.  Life happened and dA sorta got left in the dust.  I've decided to come back though and start submitting some of the work I've been doing since then.  I got a schmancy digital SLR (Canon EOS 30D) a few years back so everything I submit now will of course be digital.  Oddly I think that development has been a contributing factor in allowing me to be more creative with my photography.

At any rate, I'm starting by submitting the oldest shot from my post deviant period and will work my way up to the most recent.  Here's hoping people are still around and enjoying my work here on dA!

So uh yeah, been a while since the last journal...
Didnt get the job I wrote about last time, which kinda sucks, but I didnt get a good feeling about the company so I suppose it's kind of like a blessing in disguise (maybe?).
Regarding new material: I've been rather busy lately and have yet to find the time to frame and title the second half of my Japanese Garden set. My "artistic muse" if you will seems to be hiding and the titles dont come as easily as they used to, so it may take a bit. :P  Yes I guess I could just submit them without titles, but I really don't like doing that (it feels cheap)... at any rate, beyond the second half of the Japanese Garden set, I also have a couple new rolls to get printed and I hope to have something from those posted within the next month or so... we'll have to see how finances go. :| For any of you who are familiar with the area, the pics on those rolls are from Fort Stevens, Oregon which is near Warrenton and Astoria. So I got a few beach shots, including the Wreck of the Peter Iredale of course, as well as some I took while "hiking" around.
So until next time...
This is your friendly local photog' signing out.

Land Ho!

Arrr! :pirate: Thar be land on the horizon mateys! :D
...let's hope it be not a mirage ;)
What am I on about you ask? Yeah I guess I owe an explanation, so here goes:
Ok so I went to an interview on monday at a portrait studio. The original job offered was a sales position (make appointments, sell print packages, etc). I ended up turning the job down today when they called back because, to be brutally honest, it wasn't the right fit for me. Not even 10 minutes later, they call me back and offer me a position as an assistant photographer with room for advancement in 6-8 weeks. So I get to go see their studio set up on friday and see how it is they run things and if I like it and accept their offer, I would probably start no later than next friday. After being technically unemployed since thanksgiving (but I was in school until June, so it wasnt too bad for the first few months), Im ready to find something good and rewarding that I can be happy with and I hope this is it. If not, then at least this might act as a gateway to something greater down the road, one never knows. At any rate, wish me luck :D

Side Note:
I went to the Portland Japanese Garden www.japanesegarden.com on Sunday and shot off a couple rolls. I will likely have my prints back by thursday or friday and hopefully have something to show for it in my gallery in the following couple of days so stay tuned :)

Yeah, so, I hate colds...
"And who doesnt" you ask me.
"My point exactly" I reply.
But at least it has moved on to the sinuses and I no longer have a sore throat making it difficult to breath/swallow. Given a choice between the two I would choose the sinuses every time. Im quite sure I caught this from my little two year old cousin (the little bugger's a walking CDC, I swear it). Strange really how one of the world's most miniscule and insignificant creatures can bring mankind to a screaching halt... not entirely unlike the bacteria which killed the Martians in HG Wells War of the Worlds... speaking of which, I just so happen to be listening to Jeff Wayne's The War of the Worlds at the moment. (See how I did that clever little transition... smooth, huh? Little trick I borrowed from kenmc but shh, dont tell him. I dont think he's noticed its missing yet) So this War of the Worlds musical thingy (technical term) is an oldish rock musical concept album released back 1976 and features the voice of actor Richard Burton (who some might remember as Father Philip Lamont in Exorcist II) and the singing of Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues. Yeah the album is technically before my time, but I still remember listening to it when I was about 8 or 9 (somewhere between 1988 and 1990). Great stuff :D though not for everybody... its an acquired taste... it has a "cult following" which should about explain it enough
Aaaand, in case you're wondering, (and I know you are) yes I am indeed waiting with baited breath for the new Spielberg version of Wells's great novels to be brought to the big-screen this summer :D

Waiting...

All of the most eligible shots from my last run have been uploaded, so now I'm sitting here patiently waiting and wondering where my next wave of inspiration will come from and where I might go to fulfill it when it does finally show itself  I might try head downtown and capture a bit more urbanity, never know... we'll have to see what the weather permits :)
